About Spell the Word
Spell the Word is a free spelling game for kids who are learning to read. A picture appears, like a cat, a bus or a star, along with an empty box for each letter. Underneath are letter tiles. Tap the letters in the right order to spell the word!
How to play
- Look at the picture. The game also says the word out loud.
- Tap the first letter of the word, then the next, until every box is filled.
- The game says each letter as you tap it, and the whole word when you finish.
- Stuck? After a few seconds the next letter starts to glow and bounce as a hint.
- You have 3 lives. Tapping a wrong letter costs one, and the game tells you which letter to look for.
Grows with your reader
Spelling starts with easy three-letter words such as cat, dog, sun and pig. After a few correct words it moves on to four letters, like fish and frog, then five-letter words such as apple, horse and pizza. There are only a couple of extra letters to choose from, so children succeed often and build confidence.
