About Opposites
Opposites is a free opposite words game for preschool and kindergarten kids. In a sunny park, Momo the monkey looks after a big seesaw. A picture card sits on one end, like HOT with a fire, and pulls the seesaw down. The other seat is empty. Find the card with the opposite word, COLD with an ice cube, and it flies up onto the seesaw. The seesaw balances, Momo cheers and a friendly voice says "Hot and cold are opposites!" Some parents call it an opposite words game or a hot and cold game.
What kids learn
Opposites are a big step in early language. The game starts with just 2 cards to choose from, then 3, then 4, with 16 pairs: hot and cold, day and night, happy and sad, fast and slow, tall and short, loud and quiet, sweet and sour, summer and winter, stop and go, open and closed, young and old, soft and hard, up and down, clean and dirty, asleep and awake, wet and dry. Every word comes with a picture and is read out loud, so children who cannot read yet can play, and early readers practise new words.
Opposites is free, with no sign-up and no download. It works in the browser on phones, tablets and computers.
